I thought I would write a little bit about my own story and why I set up Innate Resilience.
I grew up as an extremely quiet boy, with crippling shyness. This had a great impact on me, not just socially, but also in school. And then later on in work. I had an intense fear of being the centre of attention. So I basically spent my time trying to hide away. I would do this physically, staying in my room on my own. Or simply by avoiding going for the life I wanted. Just seeking to get through my days, rather than create the life I truly wanted.
All of the lessons I have learnt are reflected in the coaching and therapy work that I offer. They represent different stages of my life and the difficulties I experienced.
Firework – I fell into my career. And had very little idea of which work would give me a sense of purpose. And just as crucially, which work environments would be suitable for me. I did a law degree so went into working in law firms. But deep down I never really found the work engaging. And always felt there was something missing. So in my 40’s I changed career to work as a teacher. I loved so many aspects of working in schools. The work is always interesting, I felt a massive sense of purpose in the work I was doing and I had fun working with the children. But I had a major problem with the environment. Being a Highly Sensitive Introvert, I found schools to be massively overstimulating. And consequently, I was regularly overtired. This had an effect not only on my teaching at times, but more on my life outside of school. I regularly felt overtired and had to severely restrict the life I had outside of work. It even affected me by not exercising consistently. So with great regret, I stopped working in schools.
Rapid Transformational Therapy® – I had social anxieties that were still restricting me even into middle age. When I moved down to Cornwall on my own in my 50’s the anxieties flared up again. Which was a bit of a problem when I needed to go out and meet people to build my social life. Now, talking therapies are really useful. But using hypnosis was a game changer. I saw an RTT therapist who used hypnosis to access my subconscious mind. There she found out the root cause of my lack of confidence and self-belief, interrupted those beliefs and then installed new empowering beliefs. I know that all sounds technical, but basically the anxieties no longer held me back. The knock on effect of that is massive and now I am enjoying going out and meeting new people.
I want to take all those life experiences and what I have learnt, to help others. So that’s where I am today. I love seeing people make the best of themselves and overcome any hurdles. And that’s what I offer through Innate Resilience.
